Hoss Tech: Heavy Duty Driveline
See What Makes the Hoss Traxxas-Tough
Unless there’s a rugged and reliable drivetrain to go with it, massive brushless horsepower won’t do a monster truck much good. The Hoss 4X4 VXL delivers in that department with a Traxxas-tough shaft drive system that’s built to last and put power down for non-stop off-road action.
Starting at the motor, the Hoss goes straight to metal-on-metal with a beefy 32-pitch (0.8 module) 14-tooth pinion and a 54-tooth steel spur gear on the Torque-Biasing Center Drive. The durable metal and large, deeply-meshed gear teeth make sure every bit of Velineon horsepower is poured into the driveline.Tall splines in the Torque-Biasing Center Drive’s output hub engage the Hoss’s extruded, anodized aluminum driveshaft for locked-in power delivery. In the front and rear gearboxes, metal pinions and drive the differentials’ metal ring gears. There’s yet more steel inside each differential, with precision spider and output gears made of metal to make certain the Hoss has no weak links.
Telescoping driveshafts make the final delivery of torque and power to the wheels. Traxxas has spent years refining composite universal-joint driveshafts to deliver high strength with low weight. The Hoss 4X4’s large-diameter, Extreme Heavy Duty driveshafts deliver ultra-efficient power transfer and maximum durability with minimum wear for performance that lasts.
